True North Logic

 I was invited to shoot the True North Logic corporate event again this year.  It was inspiring to rub shoulders with the innovative people who have keep this company thriving in a down economy.  It sounds like they work hard, and I know they party hard too!  At last years event there was an intense game of curling at The Olympic Oval followed by a night of blackjack, roulette and a craps table (Utah style).  This year! Bowling and dueling pianos!

Rae

Rae was visiting here in SLC form Canada. I was really lucky to get the opportunity to shoot with her. Every angle and shot I took, she looked great!  She make's photography easy!  

Salt Lake City Library

During the winter months it can be hard to find a fun location to shoot indoors.  A friend suggested the Salt Lake Library.  My first thought was "Book shelves?"  After bit of exploring Kim and I found some great places to shoot!

The image on the left is natural light shot at 1/320 F5   Image right is shot with high sync flash at 1/1000  F6.3  I like both of these images for different reasons.  Natural light is a very flattering for portraits, but has a limted dynamic range (notice the sky has blown out to white)  High Sync Flash is like shoot two images in one.  Kim is shot overexposed and the background is underexposed allowing for a blue sky. 

Heather + Conrad Engagements

Heather made a road trip from Oregon to be with her fiance Conrad.  They are moving to Portland and getting married in March.  While here in Utah I had the pleasure of shooting there engagement photos.  They said they didn't want the typical "ONE, TWO, THREE, SMILE" kind of engagement shoot.  They wanted something creative, so I ran with it.

These images have had vary little done to them in Photoshop. The blurry effect was achieved by shooting through a lens not attach to the camera.  The technique is called "freelensing"  I'm really looking forward shooting more images like this!  The problem is it attracts a lot of dust to your camera's sensor.  A titleshift lens will give you the same effect, but at $2000 I'll deal with a dusty sensor for now.

Jason & Crystal Wedding

I was the first to arrive at The Gardens at Dry Creek for Crystal and Jason's outdoor wedding under dark forbidding clouds.  The forecast was for rain, of course.  I took a few shoots outside and then headed to the bridal room to set up.  As I was heading back out to my car to gather some equipment I was greeted by Crystal's warm smile and patches of sun braking through the clouds as if the nice weather followed her there.  One couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day in the garden.
